Historic Successes
To date, the Zassi team has successfully innovated, matured and monetized two breakthrough, gastrointestinal technologies and spun out a third with the co-founding of Leto Medical, LLC.
The first is the Zassi Continent Ostomy Port™ System (COP), a unique indwelling catheter system specifically designed to restore continence to individuals who have undergone ostomy surgery due to colorectal cancer, trauma or inflammatory bowel diseases. This novel intellectual property estate was non-exclusively licensed to a Fortune 100 company.

The second is the Zassi® Bowel Management System (BMS), the world's first indwelling catheter system specifically designed to divert and contain the bacteria-laden gastrointestinal waste of non-ambulatory patients (such as those in Intensive Care Units) and in so doing help reduce the incidence of Hospital Acquired Infections (HAI) and the incidence of wound formation and contamination attributed to the failure to contain fecal waste. Following three years of successful commercialization in over 20 countries around the globe, Zassi sold the BMS assets to a leading medical device firm in 2006.
The third is the Zassi Continent Ostomy System (COS), which employs an innovative electrical stimulation technology along with proprietary, single use disposables to restore continence control to individuals who have undergone ostomy surgery due to colorectal cancer, trauma or inflammatory bowel diseases. This System of products will provide these individuals 8 to 12 hours of "pouch free" continence per day and in so doing will dramatically improve their quality of life. The technology was recently spun out of Zassi as the result of a partnership entered into between Zassi and Tucson-based Research Corporation Technologies (RCT). This partnership resulted in the formation of a new entity, Leto Medical, LLC, which will continue to develop this technology towards commercialization.
